Nyenrode opens Anniversary Year in Festive Fashion
Nyenrode turns 65 this year. The theme of Nyenrode's 65th anniversary is 'Remarkable'. This has been chosen because Nyenrode holds a remarkable place in the academic world and because it educates people who turn out to be remarkable.

The anniversary year was opened in festive fashion on September 3rd with a magnificent party for alumni, students and staff. The party area around the Castle and the Coach House was occupied by a variety of culinary stalls and there were a number of presentations, an auction and performances from Ali B, Xander de Buisonjé, the Nyenrode Booz Band and others. Then at 2200 hours, the scintillating late-night party began in the Coach House.

Opening of Academic Year 2011-2012
The new academic year was formally opened by Rector Magnificus Maurits van Rooijen on September 5th. Because of the festive nature of the opening in this anniversary year, two renowned keynote speakers were invited: Vincenzo Scotti, the Italian State Secretary for Foreign Affairs as well as Nyenrode alumnus Lodewijk de Vink, former Chairman, President and CEO of the pharmaceutical company Warner Lambert. Nyenrode's Pfizer auditorium was made possible by Lodewijk de Vink. Furthermore, Dean Leen Paape as well as Rinze Verheijen, Chairman of the Heeren V of student association Nieuwe Compagnie van Verre, delivered speeches. For the first time, it was also possible to view the opening via livestream on the Nyenrode website. www.nyenrode.nl/live.

Sculptures Unveiled
Prior to the opening of the new academic year, the first of five man-size sculpture groups was unveiled: 'Het Gesprek' (The Conversation). The renowned sculptor Pieter Kortekaas has loaned these sculptures to Nyenrode. Kortekaas's works of art are a metaphor for the new direction in leadership and entrepreneurship. Four other sculpture groups will be unveiled in the course of the anniversary year. Each unveiling will be attended by a different group of Nyenrode stakeholders. The unveilings will all be connected to special anniversary activities.

Book presentation 'Remarkable Nyenrode 1946-2011. Remarkable 65'
To celebrate the anniversary, Nyenrode is publishing a special book entitled 'Remarkable Nyenrode 1946-2011. Remarkable 65'. This contains portraits of a selection of alumni with a remarkable career or life story, and of people who have performed outstanding services in Nyenrode's history. During the opening of the academic year, Rector Maurits van Rooijen presented a luxury edition of the book to Piero Overmars and André Olijslager. Both are alumni and connected to Nyenrode in an administrative role. Overmars is President of the Nijenrode Foundation and Olijslager is Chairman of the Supervisory Board.
