Nyenrode Interexcellent Certificate Program for Interim Managers in the Asia Pacific Region
Brochure
The origin of the program
In 2006, InterExcellent Executive Interim Management, one of the leading agencies in the Netherlands with more than 30 years’ experience, established a long-term relationship with Business University Nyenrode with the goal of developing a program for senior interim managers. This initiative is in line with InterExcellent’s ambition to be a trendsetter in developing the profession of ‘interim manager’. As Willem Jongbloed, a partner at InterExcellent, comments: "Executive Interim Management has grown into a real profession which goes further than temporary capacity at board level. It’s more and more about structural changes and improvement, with a growing responsibility and urgency. The ‘new style’ Executive Interim Manager needs new, additional skills and competences covering such themes as sustainability, globalization, social networking and other ways of cross-cultural communication."
Nyenrode Business University

Program in progress
The first program in the Netherlands in 2007 was an instant success, especially in view of the fact that Executive Interim Managers had to invest time (more than 12 ‘non-billable days’) and money (a fee). Limited to 24 participants, to guarantee the interactivity of the program, it was fully booked in no time. The second program, which started during the economic crisis, also received more than the expected attention and participation. "During one of my visits to the Netherlands, I studied the contents of the program and had extensive conversations with the professors and participants," says Ruud van der Linden, CEO of Elite Executive Interim Management in Hong Kong and affiliated to InterExcellent. "The program impressed me and I saw it immediately as a great opportunity for our network of senior interim managers in this region. That’s why we started adapting the program to our needs, in close cooperation with Nyenrode, their ‘knowledge network’ and, of course, InterExcellent Executive Interim Management."
More than ‘production companies’
InterExcellent Executive Interim Management in Holland and Elite Executive Interim Management in Hong Kong have extensive experience in cooperating on interim management projects at senior management and board level. "We have seen the market changing, adds Ruud van der Linden. "Initially the interim management projects we did were mainly in production and manufacturing; nowadays projects have a far broader market scope. Consider the rapid growth of the services industry, healthcare management and so on. These institutions also want to attract Western management knowledge and capacity and this provides a very interesting opportunity for experienced interim managers, including those from Europe. The Nyenrode InterExcellent Certificate Program is very valuable for experienced interim managers who want to broaden their market scope and value in this region."
Program Asia-Pacific region
Participants
This program is designed for senior Interim Managers who want to work or are already working in the Asia-Pacific Region. Interim Managers with at least 5 years’ work experience in a management position and 2 years’ experience as an interim manager are eligible for this program.
Program objectives
The aim of this program is to offer unique learning opportunities for senior interim managers working in the Asia-Pacific Region who are looking for new management techniques and state-of-the-art theories. This program focuses on combining the knowledge we provide with the participants´ own tacit knowledge in order to enable the optimum transfer to practice. Interaction between the participants for the exchange of practices and tacit knowledge is important for the learning process and is promoted in group work.
Program philosophy
The effectiveness of an interim manager depends on how he or she can bring change to an organization. Change processes are always related to three aspects. The first aspect is the direction in which an organization wants to head, using the possibilities provided by the environment. The second aspect is the definition that needs to be changed in the organization to make this course possible. The third aspect is how the change can be effected.
People are an important part of the business and it is important to know what motivates them to change. Accordingly, the program focuses on two important topics. The first of these relates to understanding the organization´s context and the possible opportunities and threats, defining an effective strategy and organization structure, and understanding the viable aspects of an organization. The second topic relates to implementing effective change strategies in an international cultural context and its consequences for leadership. The program has been developed through a unique cooperation between Nyenrode Business University, InterExcellent and Elite Executive Interim Management in Asia.
